Poldaas a re\u00e7u de nombreuses bourses du Conseil des Arts du Canada et du Conseil des Arts de l'Ontario et a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le actif dans la collectivit\u00e9 artistique de Toronto. De 1975 \u00e0 1979, il fait partie de l'Artist's Cooperative Toronto (A.C.T.) et, en 1979, il est l'un des membres fondateurs de Mercer Union. Dans les ann\u00e9es qui suivent, Poldaas continue de d\u00e9fendre l'ind\u00e9pendance artistique dans le milieu des galeries commerciales et, de 1986 \u00e0 1988, il est membre de Cold City, l'un des premiers centres d'artistes autog\u00e9r\u00e9s de Toronto. En observant le travail de Poldaas, il devient tr\u00e8s vite \u00e9vident qu'il a abord\u00e9 l'application de la couleur avec beaucoup de soin. Il se servait souvent de formules math\u00e9matiques pour \u00e9tablir la distribution de ses blocs de couleur caract\u00e9ristiques et animait la surface plane gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 de subtils changements de teinte.
