Pierre Ayot was a Quebecer artist recognized for his contribution to contemporary printmaking and his innovative exploration of the relationships between painting, sculpture, and mechanical reproduction. Born in Montreal, he studied at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal before founding Atelier Libre 848 in 1966, which later became Graff, an influential centre for printmaking and artistic experimentation in Quebec. Influenced by Pop Art and trompe-l'œil, his work investigates the boundaries between physical objects and their representation, combining popular imagery, art historical references, and everyday objects. Through his integration of screenprinting, painting, and assemblage, Ayot developed a playful yet critical visual language that challenged conventional distinctions between image and object. His works are represented in major institutional collections, including the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Gallery of Canada.
