Remous

Rita Letendre’s small oil on canvas Remous is like a talisman, a sacred object; its form is both light, like a glowing feather that gently tapers to a point, and forceful, like a gush of lava that surges from Earth’s crust. The palette, reduced here to two dramatic colours, brings to mind Stendhal’s famous novel The Red and the Black, a story of fiery passion interpreted by some as the tension between Mars and Saturn.
